Pool Play/Warm-ups

Gym opens at 7:15 a.m.  Coaches: Check your teams in at the table as you enter the high school commons area.  Coaches meeting will be at 7:35. All pools will begin their first match at 8AM. There will be a 10 minute (2-4-4) warm up for each team’s first match only (if you are competing against a team that is playing for the first time in pool play you will still have a 10 min warm up even if you have already competed.) A 5 minute (1-2-2) warm up will follow for the remainder of competition. All pool play matches are 2 sets to 25 no cap. Balls are NOT provided for warm-up, please make sure to bring your own. Liberos can serve at this tournament.

Playoffs

Playoffs will follow immediately after pool play.

15’s division,  the top two teams from each pool will go to the Gold Division, bottom two teams from each pool will go to the Silver Division.

16’s and 17’s division, the top 4 teams will play in the Gold Division, the next four highest teams will play in the Silver Division, and the bottom 4 teams will play in the Bronze Division.

Sets 1 and 2 will be to 25 no cap. If needed, the 3rd and deciding game of a playoff match is to 15 points, switch sides when the first team reaches 8 points- no cap.

Champions in the Gold , Silver, Bronze  divisions will receive medals.   We will not wait to start a match according to the time it is scheduled. Playoff matches may start early and will begin immediately after pool play. Please keep your eye on the official score board.

Division/Seed breakdown and placement in playoffs will be decided by:

  1. Win/Loss         2. Overall Game Percentage in Pool     3. Point Differential
  1. Head to Head   5. Coin Flip

Officiating

All teams are responsible for providing their own officiating equipment. For playoffs: The WINNING TEAM of the FIRST round of playoffs will officiate the next playoff  match on that court. Thereafter the LOSING TEAM is obligated to stay and officiate. Any team late for an officiating assignment and/or competition will be penalized.  These teams will lose a point for every minute they are late. Please check with the site director before you leave to make sure your team has no further officiating duties.

In our region, coaches (or an adult registered with USAV who has been to an officials’ clinic) will be required to control the match as one of the referees within all age groups.   Coaches and players are required to attend an officials’ clinic before officiating.  The officiating team must provide an R1 (first referee), R2 (second referee), scorekeeper, libero tracker, scoreboard operator, and two line judges.  If team members need a refresher on how to keep score, there is an on-line power point presentation/tutorial at http://www.ncrusav.org/ncrofficials/scoreclinic.asp
