Welcome to the

Waconia 12s Tournament at Waconia High School on Saturday, April 16th!

  • From the Twin Cities Metro area, take Interstate 494 West to High 5 West to Waconia. Waconia High School is located 20 miles West of 494. Take a right at the first stoplight past McDonald’s at Oak Avenue. Go North (right) on Oak Avenue one block to Community Drive. Take a left on Community Drive.
  • From Highway 7, take Highway 10 South to Oak Avenue in Waconia. Go South on Oak Avenue to Community Drive. Go right on Community Drive.
  • From the West, take Highway 5 East to Waconia. In Waconia turn North (left) on Oak Avenue and go one block to Community Drive. Go left on Community Drive.
  • From Highway 212, go North on Highway 284 to Waconia. In Waconia go West on Highway 5 about 1 mile to Oak Avenue. Go North (right) on Oak Avenue approximately one block to Community Drive and turn left.

Rules:

1.      4 team pool:  Best 2 out 3 games (two 25-point and, if needed, one 15-point game).  No cap, win by two.  Don’t switch sides in the 3rd game.

2.      5 team pool:  2 sets to 25 (start score at 4-4; 27 cap).

3.      Coaches will be the up refs—no exceptions.  No whistles are provided; be sure you bring your own.  Although we will have a limited supply of whistles for sale.

4.      When serving, it is permissible for the server to have a 2nd toss for serve if they allow the first serve to drop to the ground without attempting to contact it.  Must serve behind end-line and use unlimited serving (do not have to rotate after 3 serves).

5.      Coach’s meeting at 7:40 sharp on Court #3 (furthest court from the entrance).

6.      DO NOT BRING WARM-UP BALLS—we will furnish approximately 12 on each court.

7.      No ball handling in the cafeteria or hallways.

8.      The first two matches will have the winner of the coin toss hitting first.  After the first two matches (the first three matches in the 5-team pool) are completed, teams will share hitting and serving warm-up.  Please have setters position themselves at middle front on the net when warm-up hitting is conducted to offset injuries when shared hitting is conducted.

9.      For playoffs, 10-minute warm-up will be used if it is a team’s first match in the playoffs.  If both teams are playing their second match, only allow 5-minutes warm-up.

10.  No teams whom were in the same pool will play each other in the first round of the playoffs.

11.  5th place team on Court #3 will not be included in the playoffs.  All other teams will make play-offs; top 4 ranked teams will go to the Gold Division (on court 3) while the next four ranked teams in pool play will enter the Silver Division (on Court 2) and the final four ranked teams will play in the Bronze Division on Court 1.

To rank teams:

a.       match win/loss percentage

b.      head-to-head results (if 2 tied; if 3 tied, skip to (c))

c.       game win/loss percentage

d.      point differential

e.       coin toss

12.  Volleyball T-shirts, volleyball necklaces (from 8:00-12:00), and other fun items will be sold!

13.    Medals to the Bronze Champions, Silver Champions, Gold Runner-up, and Gold Champion.

14.  Subway, pizza, “Fruitgees”, chicken-wild rice soup, breadsticks, coffee, etc. will be sold.  (yes, we offer healthy options!)

15.  In between pool play and the playoffs, we will conduct a Server Survivor Challenge.  Each team nominates one player to enter the competition.  The site director will be approaching you for your team’s nomination after the first round of pool play.  There will be 6 different serving challenges to perform.  The first 3 servers to complete the challenge will receive prizes FOR THEIR TEAM; there will be a 2-minute time limit at each challenge.

16.  Since everyone detests reffing in the play-offs after they have lost, we are attempting to furnish scorekeepers and refs in the SECOND ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS AND BEYOND by using any Waconia players who are finished in the playoffs so that non-winners can head home.  Don’t leave unless the site director dismisses you!

17.  This is intended to be a fun and relaxing day for the athletes and coaches; referees will make bad calls, relax!  Athletes will miss in/outs, relax!

18.  Entrance Fee:  Adults--$3, Students--$1; doors open at 7:20am.

19.  The playoff schedule will be posted at the site.

20.  I may have forgotten to include some important item in this sheet—if questions, please e-mail me, Jim Lee, at jlee@waconia.k12.mn.us.
