HUTCHINSON JO VOLLEYBALL CLUB

WHAT TO EXPECT – TRYOUTS & REGISTRATION

Keep in mind there may be girls from different areas/schools and age levels that tryout with you. You never know of the talent that shows up and what team you will be placed on. Evaluations will be done by program coaches and independent evaluators who will be assisting the coaches with team selections. Do not make any assumptions and have a plan in place if you are selected for a team you did not expect to make.

Our coaches and evaluators will be grouping players by their ability to be coached, attitude, athletic/physical ability, communication, position, work ethic, teamwork, volleyball ability, emotional/mental ability, and sometimes athletic potential.

Who can tryout?

17’s Team – Any girl who currently is in 9th through 11th Grade in school

15/16’s Team – Any girl who currently is in 9th or 10th Grade in school

14’s Team – Any girl who currently is in 7th or 8th Grade

Team Sizes

The Hutchinson JO Board desires to have team sizes in the range of 9 to 11 players. Cuts may occur if there are over 11 players but less than 18 players. The JO Board reserves the right to form a team with less than 9 players or with more than 11 players when they feel it is in the best interest of the program. More than one team may be formed per age level if tryout numbers allow (1’s team, 2’s team, etc.).

The evaluators realize you may be nervous – please relax, have fun and try your best!  Good Luck!!

The Process- 17’s and 15/16’s Teams

  1. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and check-ins begin at 11:40 a.m. at the Hutchinson Rec Center. (1:30 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. for those players only trying out for our 15/16's teams) Registration must be done online. No at the door registration. Tryout fees are nonrefundable.
  2. You will either receive a jersey or get a number to put on the back center of your shirt. Athletes should wear an all-black or all-white t-shirt.
  3. Tryouts begin at 12:00 p.m. sharp.
  4. Players will receive instruction from the coaches/evaluators upon tryouts beginning.
  5. Tryouts are closed for parents to observe. Parents should return to the Rec Center around 1:45/2:00 p.m. for team decisions/placement and team registration for our 17's team(s).
  6. Players will be ranked from 1 to 20 (or however many try out)
  7. Players will be assigned a team based off of that ranking, what team they are trying out for (it’s important for players to identify whether or not they are trying out for the 17’s team only, 15/16’s team only, or both), ability, and age/grade eligibility.
  8. Players may be assigned to their team throughout the tryout process or at the end of the tryout process. Our 17’s Team will be selected first.
  9. 9 to 11 numbers will be called and those girls whose numbers have been called have been selected to the 17’s team. (Players may be pulled aside throughout the tryouts and assigned to a team) Upon selection, they will have 5 minutes to sign a letter of commitment. If any one doesn’t sign, the next in order will be asked to accept a spot on the team and this process is repeated until the team is filled.
  10. Players may be assigned to their team throughout the tryout process or at the end of the tryout process. There is the possibility for more than one team at the 17's level (and 15/16's level).
  11. After our 17's team(s) has been selected, those who are eligible may stick around to try out for our 15/16’s team if they were not selected for our 17’s team.
  12. The next 9 to 11 athletes will then be called and those girls whose numbers have been called have been selected to the 15/16’s team. (Players may be pulled aside throughout the tryouts and assigned to a team) Upon selection, they will have 5 minutes to accept a spot on the team. If any one doesn’t sign, the next in order will be asked to accept a spot on the team and this process is repeated until the team is filled.
  13. Players not assigned a team, did not make our 17’s or 15/16’s program and will be free to leave.
  14. Upon team placement and signing a letter of commitment, players/parents will be required to provide a $150 deposit to secure their team spot and provide their $90 volunteer check (returnable). The $150 deposit will go towards their program costs.
  15. Online registration will open on Monday, November 13 and players/parents are required to register by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 19.
  16. The club provided apparel items sheet need to be complete and turned in at the uniform table – there are samples for you to try on to make sure sizes are ok.  It is next to impossible to make changes once items are customized.
  17. Uniform table has extra apparel for you to look at, there will be a team store at the website for a couple weeks if you’d like to purchase any more items.
